After Bellburn Wood, we moved on to Binchester, - the "Vinovia" Roman
Fort. This fort was in occupation from early in the second centuryy AD to 410
AD. You can now wander round some of the excavated ruins, and see a section of
the original Deere Street (above) which ran the length of Northern Britain at
the time. Note the gutters on the left.
