The intention had been to walk from Romaldkirk to Cotherstone, fllowing the Teesdale Way, returning from Cotherstone along the old railway line.

However, although the Teesdale Way footpath is initially easy, passing through woodland above the River Tees, the footpath then becomes extremely difficult and dangerous.
Sections of the footpath have become worn away and are narrow and slippery.
In the interests of safety, the walk was abandoned.
