Explorer Map 305 - Bishop Auckland

The majority of this walk uses the Brandon Bishop Auckland Railway Walkway, starting from the parking area at Brancepeth.
There is little need for a map as the walk is very easy to follow.
There are no gradients on the walkway itself. In Willington, the path between Peace Park and the River Wear descends gradually over well maintained park footpaths.

Start from the small parking area at the site of Brancepeth Station (NZ219 382).
Follow the railway walkway almost to Willington(about 2 miles).
Just before the walkway comes to housing on the outskirts of Willington, there is a clearly marked (and well-used) footpath that heads Southwards. To the right of this footpath are the Willington Allotments.
Follow the footpath past the Willington Cricket Ground and an estate of houses off Manor Road.
Head down Manor Road to the A690, then turn right to reach the Willington War Memorial.
To the South of the War Memorial is Peace Park, with rest benches and a paved footpath that takes you down to the River Wear,
From the War Memorial turn left and head up the A690 / Commercial Street.
Just past a large Co-Op shop on the right is the start of the walkway between Willington and Brancepeth.
