Explorer Map 299 - Ripon & Boroughbridge

This walk is taken from February 2024 edition of the "The Yorkshire Dalesman".
In the magazine, the walk is described as "Undemanding" and the time to complete it as being 2 hours.
We found that, due to previous bad weather and wet conditions, the walk was anything but undemanding, and the total walk time was 4 1/2 - 5 hours.
The principal reason for this was a field gate at High Leys Farm. This gate was literally held together and fastened with a mixture of barbed wire and bailer twine. Getting past this gate took us a considerable time.
Once past the gate there is an uphill climb over pasture which has been well trodden by cattle. This made the going VERY slow.
North of Husthwaite there is a footpath from Elphin Bridge Lane to Angram Hall Farm. This footpath crossed arable land which had been flooded earlier so was avoided by taking the access road to the farm.

A map of the route followed has been plotted on the Ordnance Survey mapping website, By selecting the ink below you will be taken to this map, - complete with distances and heights marked on the route.
