Explorer Map 306, - Middlesbrough & Hartlepool

A "there and back" walk using well-defined tracks and footpaths, with a detour round the Hurworth Burn.
The mid-point is the old railway station at Hurworth Burn (with only the platforms remaining).
After heavy rain, parts of the old railway walkway can be VERY wet and good footwear is essential.

A map of the route followed has been plotted on the Ordnance Survey mapping website, By selecting the ink below you will be taken to this map, - complete with distances and heights marked on the route.

Park in Castle Eden on the main road just past the Castle Eden Inn. Although there is a car pak for this public house, it is not clear whether people not using the pub may use the car park.
Head down St. James Fields to find the Castle Eden Walkway and follow this for about 1/2 mile Westwards.
Just before the walkway enters a cutting, take the footpath across a field that is on your left.
This connects with a paved walkway that takes you Southwards into Station Town.
Follow the main road through Station Town and where it leaves the town there is an entrance to the walkway that leads to the Hurworth Burn.
Just before the actual Burn is reached, there is a footpath on your right that leads to a bridge that crosses the Burn.
Cross this footbridge, then take the track (that runs between hedges) to connect with the Hurworth Burn road.
Turn left and follow this road for a short distance (CARE needed).
Turn right up the tack to Murton Blue House.
Just before you reach the house, take the track on your left that connects to the railway walkway.
Now head Northwards to the old Hurworth Burn Railway Station, and continue Northwards along the walkway to Station Town and Castle Eden.,
