A straightforward walk starting from Leyburn and walking along the Shawl to Presto-under-Scar.
Before reaching Preston-under-Scar the footpath passes through woodland in which the remains of a flue from the earlier lead smelting mill can be seen.
Returning from Preston-under-Scar the route takes you past the ruined buildings of the 19th Century lead mining and smelting industry.
Return to the Shawl and Leyburn by a footpath from these buildings.

Start out from Leyburn (SE1112890624) along the well sign-posted walk along the Shawl.
Head West along the Shawl until the footpath leaves the plantation at SE082589135.
Follow the footpath across fields to the woodland at SE07859120, and follow the waymarked footpath to Preston-under-Scar.
Return from Preston-under-Scar by the road to Wensley. This road is narrow and care must be taken.
At SE078 906 a footpath takes you Northwards to the mine buildings. Follow the track past these buildings to the farm at Tullis Cote.
Here turn right and take the footpath almost due East that returns you to the Shawl and Leyburn.
