7 miles (Hesleden to Crimdon Becah) / 1 mile Monk Hesleden "spur"
Explorer Map 306, - Middlesbrough & Hartlepool
You don't need a map to follow the route.
Start from the small parking area beside the Haswell - Hart Cycleway.
This parking area is at the end of East Terrace in Hesleden (NZ44246 37931).
The Hart to Haswell railway walkway (cycle path) is immediately beside
this car park.
Follow the walkway all the way to Hart Station - some 2.8 miles.
At Hart Station there is a footbridge over the main railway line. Cross
the bridge and then take the footpath to Crimdon.
At Crimdon there is a footbridge over the Crimdon Beck.
If you take the footpath without crossing the beck at this point, you
will need to ford the beck if you want to visit the beach.
Alternatively, cross the footbridge and take the footpath on your right
that leads to the beach.
Return to Hesleden by the same route you came to Crimdon.
Where a road crosses the walkway (about half a mile from Hesleden) turn
left.
Follow the road and then footpath to the St. Mary's churchyard (the church
was demolished in 1967).
The footpath continues down a steep bank to where it crosses the Crimdon
Beck at a footbridge.
Return the way you came back to the railway walkway.
