The Grey Panthers

This walk was taken from one described in an article in The Times (6 August 2022).
The article states that the walk is "strenuous in parts with steep wooded valleys".
They certainly meant it when they said "strenuous", We found that although the walk is only 5 miles in length it felt as though it was considerably more than this.
The walk involves muddy footpaths so should be avoided in wet conditions. It also involves several stiles, some of which are clearly sub-standard.

Start from the public car park in Staithes (NZ78150 18560).
Out of season, - November through February, this is no charge for using this car park. However, from March through to October, expect to pay about £5 per car.
Leave the car park by a footpath which passes to the side of a building advertising Staithes Kippers and Crabs.
Follow this footpath in a Southerly direction, past houses, to cross the main A174 road.
Continue on the footpath to Seaton Hall (a farm shop), then cross the track to follow a footpath steeply downhill.
Continue in a Southerly direction until you pass Plum Tree House farm.
Past the farm there is a Trod, at the end of which bear left to cross a field.
On the other side of the field is a gate which leads you to the footpath down into Borrowby Dale.
Cross the bridge at the bottom of the dale and climb out of the dale.
Follow the footpath across to the next dale, and after crossing that dale continue into Hinderwell village,
In the village cross the main road then take the road that leads to Port Mulgrave.
St. Hilda's Church is a short distance along this road.
Continue on the road to Port Mulgrave, then take the footpath along the cliff top, past Old Nab, to Staithes.
