This walk was designed for a hot Summer's day, when a walk along the coast would be preferable to a walk inland (when temperatures would have made walking uncomfortable.
The walk starts just outside Marske and reaches Saltburn via the England Coast Path. In Marske there is a short detour past houses in Cliff Terrace.
In Saltburn, after visiting the park, the return journey to Marske was made via the wooded valley of Hazel Grove.

Start from the small car park at Scanbeck Howle (NZ631 231). Follow the main road towards Marske and just opposite the school buildings there is a public footpath to Cliff Terrace.
This public footpath squeezes between houses but is a pleasure to walk along as it is well kept and line with plants.
From Cliff Terrace head towards the beach then take the steps up to the grassy area that leads to the ruins of St. Germain's Church.
Cross the churchyard then follow the street in a South Easterly direction for a short distance.
When you come to the waymarked footpath take this towards the cliff edge, and then take the England Coast Path footpath all the way to Saltburn.
In Saltburn, walk along the promenade past the pier. Continue to reach the car park by the park / Valley Gardens.
Retrace your steps past the pier and promenade then head South Westwards up the valley of Hazel Grove.
As you leave Hazel Grove, take the track North Westwards towards the outskirts of Marske.
Now take the street Northwards and at the end of the street turn left.
After a short distance take the footpath that returns you to the England Coast Path.
Retrace your steps to your starting point.
