Explorer Maps OLS26 & OLS27, - North York
Moors (Eastern & Western Areas)
A very pleasant walk mostly using country lanes, though
with some use of quiet roads.
The walk starts in Hutton-le-Hole which is a popular village with tourists,
on account of both being "quaint" and also on account of the
Ryedale Folk Museum.
From Hutton-le-Hole the route follows country lanes to Spaunton, then
continues via a footpath down into Lastingham.
The main attraction in Lastingham is the 11th Century Church, though the
village has other interests worth seeing.
The return from Lastingham to Hutton-le-Hole follows the footpath that
runs North of Lastingham.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!

(SE70518 9022). Fee payable. Toilets.
Cross over the road to take the road that runs on the Westward side of
the village and head Southwards.
Where the housing ends, cross the road to find a woodland track on your

Follow this track round the woodland, and continue Eastwards until there
is a right turn in the track. (Bottomfields Lane).
Continue until you come to Lingmoor Lane, and where this meets Spaunton
Lane turn left.
Head Eastwards through Spaunton and at SE728899 turn left to follow a
footpath to the Victoria Cross.
Return from the Victoria Cross to the road. Cross over and take the footpath
down into Lastingham.
In Lastingham, head Westwards towards St. Mary's Church.
From the church, return Eastwards along the road, then turn left to head
up the lane to the moorland.
Now take the footpath that crosses the Hole Beck and takes you past St.
Mary's well to the road.
Nead eastwards along the road.
Opposite Bainwood Head Farm there is a footpath that returns you to Hutton-le-Hole.
