Outdoor Leisure Map OL26, - North Yorkshire Moors (West)

A straightforward walk over well defined tracks that cross moorland and pass through woodland.
The route is very easy to follow. There are no stiles to cross and the gradients are gentle.
In August, the major attraction of the walk is the mass of heather on Rievaulx Moor.

A map of the route followed has been plotted on the Ordnance Survey mapping website, By selecting the ink below you will be taken to this map, - complete with distances and heights marked on the route.

The start of the walk is from Newgate Bank Car Park, SE56417 88979.
Near the entrance to the car park is a signposted footpath along a forestry track that heads North East along the edge of Rievaulx Moor.
At SE59337 90379 the forestry track crosses the minor road that leads to Helmsley Bank. At this point there are a couple of picnic benches for the view over Helmsley Moor.
Continue along the Forestry track in a South Easterly direction until you come to Cowhouse Bank, SE611 887.
Here there are picnic benches.
Return to Newgate Bank the way you came.
