Explorer Map No 304, - Darlington and Richmond
This walk is delightful for a Summer's day, when the footpaths
are well defined and firm underfoot. In Winter-time, or when the weather
is wet, we have used the road between Girsby and Low Dinsdale>
However, when the sun is out the views on this walk also make it worthwhile.
For a Memory Map overlay of the walk described, please select the above
link.
(Overlay made with Version 5 of Memory Map)
Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Start from Neasham village, parking in the main street. (NZ325 101)
Head East along the road to Low Dinsdale.
Past St. John's Church there is a road bridge over the River Tees.
Continue along the road Until just before the avenue of trees (the Roman
Road) the Teesdale Way is indicated on your right.
Follow the Teesdale Way Southwards. The first leg (where the Teesdale
Way enters Crosshill Wood) needs a bit of careful map reading, but after
that the footpath is clear and easy to follow. The footpath crosses agricultural
land all the way to Girsby.
At Girsby, call in at All Saints' Church then walk downhill to cross the
River Tees at Girsby Bridge.
Now follow the road back to Neasham.
Just before entering Neasham, there is a footpath along the earth embankment
that protects Neasham from flooding.
