Outdoor Leisure Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western Area)
The route for this walk had been selected as it offered
a fair amount of shade on a very hot Summer's day.
The original intention had been to walk South of Guisborough via Old
Park Farm to Slapewath, and return via the Guisborough Railway Walkway
to the start at Pinchinthorpe.
Unfortunately, the footpath near Old Park Farm was not at all clear
and we decided to retrace steps to join the Guisborough Railway Walkway
via Butt Lane.
Apart from this unfortunate setback, the rest of the route is easy
to navigate and offers a good deal of shade.
There are no especially steep gradients and only a few easy to use
stiles.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Start from the Pinchinthorpe Visitor Centre (NZ584 152). Car Park fee
to pay.
Follow the Railway Walkway in an Easterly direction before taking the
signed footpath to Guisborough Town.
This takes you past Home farm towards Hutton Gate.
At the road junction turn right, and take the footpath on your left that
initially follows a track towards housing then continues to join the Hutton
Village - Guisborough track.
Continue on this track past the Tees Link footpath, then continue Eastwards
to Butt Lane (NZ627 149).
Here we attempted to find the footpath to Old Park Farm, but turned back
as it was very overgrown and hidden by bracken and undergrowth.
From Butt Lane we joined the Guisborough Railway walkway and headed West
until, reaching Hutton Gate,
From there we returned to the start at Pinchinthorpe.
