The first part of this walk is on a reasonably straightforward route from Great Ayton to Airyholme Farm.
Much of this section of the walk is over minor roads and tracks.
From Airyholme Farm ascend along a farm track and then take a footpath before descending through Newton Wood.
Stop off in Newton under Roseberry at the church.
From Newton under Roseberry return to Great Ayton by a farm footpath (several stiles to cross) before returning to Great Ayton via the track through Cliff Ridge Woods.

The start of the walk is from the road beside the River Leven in Great Ayton, where there is a small park (NZ555 106).
Walk East through Great Ayton until you come to Waterfall Park (NZ559 107).
Here take the footpath beside the waterfall and continue South Eastwards with the cricket pitch on your right.
Then take the footpath towards Grange Farm and Little Ayton.
Continue in a North Easterly direction to cross the railway and onwards to Dikes Lane.
Here cross the road and take the road towards Airyholme Farm.
At Airyholme Farm head Northwards up the farm track to the point where a footpath heads Westwards .
Follow the footpath to the shooting lodge, then descend to Newton Wood.
Descend through Newton Wood to Roseberry Lane and Roseberry under Newton.
In the village, cross the road to find the lane leading to the church.
From Roseberry under Newton, take the footpath from the car park that runs beside the main road and brings you to Cliff Ridge Wood.
From the track through the woods, take the footpath on your right to take onwards to return you to Great Ayton.
