Outdoor Leisure Map OL26, - North Yorkshire
Moors (West)
This walk uses well-used and popular tracks and footpaths,
so that navigation should be no problem.
There are some ascents and descents, though all are on clear tracks.
Crossing field boundaries is through gates, with no stiles.
In winter time and in wet weather, Green Lane can be very muddy. However,
at the time this walk was made, the ground was firm underfoot all
the way.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Park outside All Saints' Church, Ingleby Arncliffe (NZ452
003). There is a small parking area here, and this should be use din preference
to parking in the actual village.
Walk up the track past Arncliffe Hall, and turn right where the track
divides. Continue on the track past Park House and continue in a Southwards
direction on this clear and well made track (signed as the Coast to Coast
Footpath).
Where the track meets another track, turn right to continue on the Cleveland
Way footpath / Coast to Coast footpath heading Southwards to Osmotherley.
Where this track meets a field gate, immediately turn sharp left to take
the Cleveland Way footpath up to Scarth Wood Moor.
Pass through a gate onto the moor and follow the Cleveland Way until you
come to a finger post which indicates a bridleway on the right.
Follow the bridleway and road to the bridge over the Crabdale Beck.
Continue along High Lane (a track that is initially extremely uneven,
but then levels out).
At SE472 980 there is a footpath leading into the Forestry plantation.
Turn right and follow the footpath to meet a track that heads Southwards
out of the plantation.
Follow the track (Green Lane) past the farm house of Rocky Plain.
Take the field footpath on your right past a farm to a crossing of the
Cod Beck. Continue up the farm lane to Quarry Lane.
Turn left at the road, and after about 200 yards take the lane on the
right to Chapel Wood Farm.
Continue on the footpath to rejoin the Cleveland Way / Coast to Coast
footpath and retrace your steps back to the church at Ingleby Arncliffe.
