A very straightforward walk that starts in Gainford then follows the Teesdale Way to Piercebridge.
In Piercebridge, a visit is first paid to the remains of the Roman bridge on the South side of the River Tees.
Crossing over the river, the next stop is the Roman fort.
The return to Gainford is along the Teesdale Way footpath.

Park in the centre of Gainford, on the village Green. (NY17023 16793).
Leave Gainford by the main road (A67), heading East.
About 1/2/ mile out, the Teesdale Way footpath is indicated on your right.
Follow this footpath, beside the River Tees, all the way to Piercebridge.
In Piercebridge, cross the River Tees by the road bridge. After a couple of hundred yards, the footpath to the remains of the Roman bridge is on your left.
Return to the road bridge over the river Tees and cross the bridge.
Almost immediately, on your right, is a footpath which takes you to the remains of the Roman Fort.
Return to Gainford via the path you followed on the outward leg.
