Half way between Piercebridge and Gainford is this "gravestone". We asked a passing local if there was any information on this gravestone. She informed us that it was stone to mark the successful return of an adjacent quarry to agricultural use, and this had been recorded on a brass plaque attached to the stone. The brass plaque was, of course, stolen.
