Outdoor Leisure Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western
Area)
The outward leg of this walk is very straightforward and
reference to a map is not really needed.
This initial leg uses the old railway track bed of the Guisborough Forest
Walkway to bring you into the centre of Guisborough town.
Heading Southwards follow forestry tracks and footpaths to eventually
reach High Cliff Nab, one of Cleveland's "Three Peaks".
Descend from High Cliff Nab via the "Tees Link" footpath,
and return to Pinchinthorpe via the route taken on the outward leg.
For a Memory Map overlay of the walk described, please select the above
link.
(Overlay made with Version 5 of Memory Map)
Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Start from the Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre
at Pinchinthorpe (NZ58414 15265).
Follow the track Eastwards towards Home Farm and Hutton Village.
When you reach the minor road, turn left and after about 400 yards take
the signposted footpath on your right.
When you reach the road, turn right and almost immediately find the old
railway station platforms of Pinchinthorpe Station. Now follow the old
railway trackbed for 500 yards or so, cross the road, and continue along
the railway track bed.
When you reach the bridge that crosses Belmangate, descend by the steps
and head Northwards along Belmangate to the town centre.
Retrace you steps and walk along Belmangate until you come to the track
that leads to Guisborough Woods.
Continue up this track until you reach a Forestry track.
Cross the Forestry track and take the footpath Northwards until you reach
a Forestry track at about 250m.
Turn left along this track and continue ascending. After joining another
Forestry track you eventually reach High Cliff Nab at about 300m.
From High Cliff Nab descend Northwards to reach the Tees Link footpath.
Follow this broad track (very muddy in places) until it turns sharp left
almost at the boundary of the woodland.
After just over half a mile, there is a set of steps on your right leading
to a footpath.
This footpath returns you, eventually, to Hutton Village and Home Farm.
Now retrace your steps to the Visitor Centre.
