You don't really need a map for this walk, though it
always helps to have one to hand.
As described the walk heads to Whitby along the cliff tops, following
the Cleveland Way footpath.
The walks then returns to Sandsend along the each.
Depending on the state of the tide, the outward / inward legs can be
exchanged.
The walk as described is to the railway station, near which is allegedly
the best fish-and-chips restaurant in the country.

Park at at the main car park in Sandsend at the bottom of
Lythe Bank. (NZ860 129). Fee payable.
Head towards Whitby along the main A174 (Sandsend Road). There is adequate
pavement beside the length of this road.
Past the golf course, at NZ878 116, a track takes you left (following
the Cleveland Way footpath).
This track crosses a small dene, then ascends to the cliff tops. Follow
the track and street pavements to the Captain Cook statue on the top of
West Cliff.
Descend by steps and the road to the harbour. Head South along the busy
street past various entertainments and cafes to the Swing bridge. Continue
Southwards to the railway station and Threshers restaurant,
Retrace steps to the harbour and then the pier.
Descend onto the beach by the pier, and now walk along the beach to Sandsend.
