At the Newgate level crossing, we came across this extraordinary sight. The "City of Wells", which last week had hauled train services between Grosmont and Pickering, was this week on a low loader being transported to its owners. Talking to one of the crossing keepers, I was told that the engine had to travel by road as it wasn't permitted on main railway lines.
