The Jubilee bridge over the River Wear was originally opened in 1887 (Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee). The original bridge was constructed by Ashmore, Benson & Pease, - a company founded in Stockton-on-Tees just 2 years before. In 1961 I had worked (briefly) for the Power Gas Corporation who had absorbed Ashmore, Benson & Pease in 1901.
