Explorer Map OLS30, - Yorkshire Dales (North)

This walk includes some of the best scenery there is in Wensleydale, - a mix of spectacular riverside scenery and views across Wensleydale itself to the North and to the West.
Navigation is very straightforward.
There are several stiles to cross. These include wall stiles, which need a bit more care than the usual basic stiles.
There are some modest ascents and descents, but nothing untoward.
Altogether, if the weather is fine this is a thoroughly enjoyable walk.

Park in the Dales car park for Aysgarth Falls (SE011 877). Fee payable.
Take the path down to bridge where the road crosses the River Ure. Care need on this bridge, as the road is narrow.
Almost directly ahead, having crossed the bridge, is a footpath through buildings of the old mill that brings you to St. Andrew's Church. The footpath rises fairly steeply, and steps aid your ascent.
Just past the church itself, turn sharp left and follow the footpath almost due East. This footpath is well marked and runs above the River Ure.
Most of the time you will hear the river, as it is hidden by trees, but at one point the footpath descends to the river itself.
Continue on the footpath to reach to A684 main road.
Care is needed at this point, as the road can be quite busy and it is very narrow.
Continue Eastwards and cross the bridge. Almost immediately, take the field footpath North Eastwards and follow this footpath all the way to Redmire Force.
The footpath is well marked and there should be no trouble in following it.
Descend to Redmire Force then continue on the footpath Eastwards until you reach a field wall.
At this point there is a track that runs Southwards across a meadow.
Where the track reaches some woodland, take the farm track (Back Lane) to Swininthwaite.
In Swininthwaite there is a farm shop / cafe where you may want to stop off.
Cross the A684, and almost immediately there is a track that runs in a South Westerly direction up the hill.
At the top of the slope, there is a field footpath that runs Westwards beside a field wall.
Follow this footpath for the next mile or two until you come to the stony track of Morpeth Gate.
This track runs South Westwards and brings you into West Burton village.
In West Burton take a bit of time to visit the Falls.
In the village, take the road that runs from the village Green Northwards (a narrow one-way street). Where there is a bend in this street, there is a footpath that takes you to Eshington Lane and Eshington Bridge.
Having crossed the bridge, turn right and after about 20 yards there is a footpath that returns you to Aysgarth.
