Outdoor Leisure Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western
Area)
A very pleasant circular walk that starts from the Sutton
Bank Visitor Centre.
The walk starts by heading South along the Cleveland Way, past the White
Horse hillside carving.
The route continues past Scotch Corner above Oldstead, and through Oldstead
village itself, until heading for High KIlburn and Kilburn using a rather
muddy track.
From Kilburn there is then a steady climb (of about 600 ft) to arrive
back at Sutton Bank again.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Park at the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre (SE51661 83075).
Parking fee applies. Toilets available.
Cross over the A170 (CARE) to follow the Cleveland Way Southwards along
the edge overlooking the Vale of York.
Continue until you reach the minor road at Low Town Bank.
At this point there is a small car park. From the car park a Permissive
Footpath runs parallel to the road.
Where this footpath forks, with the left hand path taking you back to
the road, take the right hand path which takes you to High Town Bank Road,
- a farm track. Head North until you come to where a track on your right
meets the road.
Head down the track, past the chapel at Scotch Corner, and make for the
village of Oldstead.
Head South through Oldstead, past the Black Swan Restaurant, to Beckside
Farm
Just past the farm is a track on your right (warning, VERY muddy!) that
takes you to High Kilburn.
From High Kilburn, continue along the road and then footpath, to KIlburn.
From Kilburn follow the road Northwards.
Turn left at the road junction.
Just past the small car park is a footpath on your right that runs beside
the road.
Continue uphill until you come to another car park on your left. Cross
the road into this car park, then take the track that is straight ahead
of you. This track takes you back to the Cleveland Way and Sutton Bank,
- after another fairly steep ascent.
