Outdoor Leisure Map OL27, - North Yorkshire Moors
(East)
A straightforward walk from Levisham village to Levisham
Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
From the station the walk follows the Forestry roads and tracks to Newton
Dale Halt.
Navigation is very straightforward.
At the start of the walk there is a descent of about 800 ft down to
Levisham Station. Although the footpath is clearly defined and reasonably
gentle, it should be remembered that what goes down has to come up again
at the end of the walk!
For a Memory Map overlay of the walk described, please select the above
link.
(Overlay made with Version 5 of Memory Map)
Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Start from Levisham village (SE833 905).
At the top end of the main street in the village, turn left by the little
church. Follow the lane until it reaches a field gate.
Follow the footpath across two fields until you come to a stile on your
right.
Cross the stile and descend the track into Newton Dale.
Where the broad grassy track levels out, there is a stile on your left
that takes you to the footpath that leads to Levisham Station.
Cross the railway tracks at the station then follow the Forestry Commission
roads / tracks Northwards to Newton Dale Halt.
Return along the same route.
