Explorer Map OL30, - Yorkshire Dales (North)
A year-round walk in a popular walking area.
The walk starts from the Visitor Centre car park at Aysgarth Falls, -
where all three sections of the Falls can be viewed.
The walk uses clearly marked footpaths and there is no difficulty with
navigation.
The footpath between Redmire and Castle Bolton affords some superb views
of Wensleydale (and Penhill), and especially a view towards the castle
in Castle Bolton.

Park in the Visitor Centre car park at Aysgarth Falls (SE011
887). Fee to pay.
There is a clearly marked path to the Upper Falls, which can be visited
either at the end of the walk or the start of the walk.
Head to the Middle and Upper Falls, again using a clearly signed and indicated
footpath.
From the Lower Falls, take the field footpath to Hollins House Farm.
Continue of the field footpath towards High Thoresby Farm.
Before you reach this latter farm, take the track that runs beside the
field wall that heads Eastwards to join Thoresby Lane.
Continue along the lane to Low Thoresby Farm, then along the farm road
to Low Bolton.
Now follow the road Eastwards towards Redmire (CARE : this road was surprisingly
busy).
When you reach a lane on your left head up this lane into Redmire.
At the top end of the village is a large Sycamore tree with a bench under
it. Just past this tree is a lane in which a footpath runs Northwards.
Follow the footpath across a field up to the railway line. Cross the line,
then take the track left. When you reach a road, cross the road and immediately
take the field footpath to Castle Bolton.
In Castle Bolton, continue past the castle (Bolton Castle) and follow
the broad track over pastureland that eventually brings you down into
Carperby.
Head South Westwards along the main street in Carperby until you come
to the road junction.
Here turn left and continue Southwards until you come to the field footpath
on your right that returns you to Aysgarth Falls.
