(West)
A straightforward walk that starts from Kirkdale, where
St. Gegory's Minster can be visited.
The walk than follows the road, and field footpaths, to Kirkbymoorside.
Here there is an opportunity to visit the town itself and All Saints'
Church.
From Kirkbymoorside there is an easy walk Northwards to Gillamoor. The
return is along a track through Hagg Wood, where there is a modest descent
followed by an ascent.
This track leads you back to Kirkbymoorside, from where you return along
the field footpath and road to Kirkdale.
No navigational difficulties, and no steep gradients.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may
want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from
the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO,
you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory
Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site,
- just use QUO!!
Start from the overflow parking area by St. Gregory's Minster
in Kirkdale (SE 67633 85651). Use the overflow car park rather than the
car park by the Minster, as the latter is reserved for those using the
church.
Follow the road over the Hodge Beck until you come to the road junction.
Straight ahead is a kissing gate that leads onto the field footpath. Turn
left and head for the woodland, where there is a footpath gate. Here turn
right and follow the field footpath (indicated by waymarks) to Kirkbymoorside.
In Kirkbymoorside, continue Eastwards through the housing estate, until
you come to the main road.
Now head Southwards along the main street (Market Place) until you come
to Church Street.
Turn left to visit the church.
Take the footpath that runs beside the church on the East side, and head
for Castlegate.
Take the lane that heads Northwards through Manor vale Nature Reserve.
Continue on the footpath to High Park Farm.
From here, take the track Northwards to Gillamoor.
From Gillamoor's church, take the track Southwards that descends through
Hagg Wood.
Fairly shortly after this track reaches level ground, take a track on
your right up through Hagg Wood and continue until you reach the Back
of Parks Road.
Take the farm road that leads to Low Park Farm, and continue along the
farm road that takes you to Park Lane and Kirkbymoorside.
From Kirkbymoorside, retrace your steps to Kirkdale.
