A sign that we haven't noticed before on the Headland. It reads "The place whereon thou standest is Holy ground. Around lie buried the monks and nuns of the ancient monastery of Hartlepool (Heruteu) founded (circa) 640 AD. Destroyed by the Danes (circa) 800 AD. This cemetery was discovered in 1833."
