Seven paving stones that commemorate the award of the Victoria Cross to men born in County Durham. The paving stones are to be laid, or have been laid, in the town of birth of each VC holder. There are 428 such paving stones for UK and Irish born men. The "missing" stone is for Thomas Kenny, VC, of he DLI and was laid in Wheatley Hill, County Durham on 4 November 2015. The middle stone on the right is for Serjeant William McNally of the Yorkshire Regiment. |
