In the village of Hinderwell, St. Hilda's Well is in the churchyard of St. Hilda's Church. This isn't a well, as such, but a spring. It is reputed that the spring was discovered by St. Hilda, Abbess of Whitby, in the seventh century A.D. (Cliff is by St. Hilda's Well, which is a modern renovation.)
