In St. Mary's Churchyard, Bolton-on-Swale, is this remarkable monument. It is the "Henry Jenkins Obelisk", commemorating a man who lived for 169 years. There is documentary evidence for this improbably great age, and he is recognised as the longish-lived English person ever recorded. He died on 9 December 1690, and there is another memorial to him in the church itself.
