The Heselden Dene footbridge was in a truly dreadful state. What the photo doesn't show is that the bridge itself was as slippery as ice, and there was a big drop on the far side. Under dry conditions we might have chanced it (as the tracks on the other side showed that some had), but it was too slippery to risk using the bridge. So we had a BIG detour.
