On the wall of this house beside the River Leven in Stokesley is a plaque that tells one that the nearby trees were planted to commemorate Mrs S Henty, born in Stokesley 8 Feb 1817 who was "the first white woman to settle permanently in Victoria, Australia, in 1836." This needs a bit of checking up, - interesting history.
