Explorer Map No OL30 - Yorkshire Dales (Northern &
Central Areas)
Treat yourself to this walk on a day when the sun is out and
the visibility is good, and you will remember it for a LONG time!
A real delight.
The walk is very straightforward to navigate and the route is
clear to follow.
There are no significant gradients, - the only ascents and descents
are fairly gentle.
The only point of concern is that sections of the footpath run
beside the River Swale. Following wet weather, and when the river
is in spate, parts of the footpath could be ether very wet or
under water.

Map)
Some new mapping software is now availabe which you
may want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for
free from the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having
installed QUO, you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus
YOU DON'T NEED Memory Map to use any of the overlays provided on the
Grey Panthers website, - just use QUO!!
Start from the centre of Reeth (SE03815 99281).
Follow the signposted footpath down to the River Swale and the Swing
Bridge.
Cross the river and take the footpath to How Hill. At this point,
turn right through a gate and follow the footpath beside the River
Swale until it reaches a minor road.
Turn right and walk along the road past Browna Gill Bridge and Scabba
Wath Bridge.
Just past Scabba Wath Bridge there is turning to the right to the
Low Lane track ( a walled track). Follow this until you come to the
road that turns right to Isles Bridge.
Cross the River Swale here, then immediately take the footpath on
your right that runs along the North bank of the river.
Follow this footpath until it emerges at the B6270, where you turn
right and walk along the road for a couple of hundred yards (CARE
: traffic!!).
Here take the footpath on your left to Healaugh. The footpath meets
a road just by the Barney Beck High Bridge.
Past the bridge, turn left up the track to Thiernswood Hall.
One field up this track, take the footpath across fields to Healaugh.
In Healaugh, take the footpath down to the river, then follow it all
the way back to Reeth.
