Explorer Map No OL30, - Yorkshire Dales (North)
A really wonderful walk, taking you from Wensleydale
up to Wether Fell by the Cam Road, then down into the small farming
community of Marsett. After crossing Ray Dale to Stalling Busk,
the return to Bainbridge is via Semer Water and the River Bain.
The views are exceptional.
There is some climbing, though the gradients are fairly reasonable,
and there is a somewhat steepish descent to Marsett.
Navigation is of no trouble, though iyt would help to have the 1:25000
map to hand rather than a 1:50000 scale map.
If you do this walk on a fine day, you will remember it for a long
time.

Some new mapping software is now availabe which you
may want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for
free from the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having
installed QUO, you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus
YOU DON'T NEED Memory Map to use any of the overlays provided on the
Grey Panthers website, - just use QUO!!
Start from the centre of Bainbridge (SD93357 90150).
There is a stretch of road near the village school where you can park
without being too much in the way.
Head South West out of Bainbridge on the minor road that leads to
Countersett.
After a few hundred yards, you come to the Cam Road, - an ancient
walled track that was once a Roman Road. Head on up the Cam Road until
you come to the minor road that crosses it at Four Lane Ends.
Turn left here, heading downhill along Crag Side Road.
At a point where there is a sharp left-hand bend in the road, a signposted
track takes upwards under Green Crag and Green Scar.
You pass through two stone walls, and when you come to the third one
there is a sinposted footpath that takes you steeply downhill to Marsett.
Enyer Marsett village, and then take the signposted track to Stalling
Busk. This starts out as a walled lane, and crosses Raydale Beck and
Cragdale Water via two footbridges. Then follow a grassy footpath
uphill to Stalling Busk.
From Stalling Busk, descend down to Semer Water via the signposted
footpath, passing the ruins of the old church on your left.
When you reach the road at Low Blean Farm, turn left to Semer Water
Bridge.
Here, there is a footpath on your right that initially runs along
the River Bain, and eventually arrives back in Bainbridge.
