Explorer Map No 304, - Darlington and Richmond
A very straightforward walk, suitable for just about
everybody.
The walk uses The Teesdale Way over its entire length, and is generally
well waymarked and signposted.
The only section where there was a bit of difficulty was the footpath
over arable farmland at Girsby, where the inclination was to walk
round the field rather than over it until we found that there was
little option BUT to walk across the field.
There are no gradients to speak of.

Some new mapping software is now availabe which you
may want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for
free from the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having
installed QUO, you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus
YOU DON'T NEED Memory Map to use any of the overlays provided on the
Grey Panthers website, - just use QUO!!
Start from Neasham village, parking in the main street.
(NZ325 101)
Walk Eastwards along the footpath on top of the flood defences, which
takes you to Sockburn Lane.
Turn right in Sockburn Lane(CARE : traffic) and continue walking Southwards
to High Sockburn.
Opposite High Sockburn there is a farm track leading to Girsby Bridge.
Cross the bridge and head uphill to the small church.
Follow the lane to Church House Farm. Just past the farm (and opposite)
the footpath Northwards is waymarked.
The footpath directly crosses arable farmland.
Walk almost due North to come out at White House Farm.
Here the footpath continues due North to Hill House Fram, and eventually
comes to houses at Over Dinsdale.
Turn left on the road, and continue, - crossing Dinsdale Bridge, towards
Manor House Farm.
Just past Manor House Farm the Teesdale Way is signposted down a farm
track. Continue along this track to The Ashes (a substantial house)
wherethe footpath turns right.
Past Black Wood, the Teesdale Way footpath turns left to rejoin Sockburn
Lane. Retrace your steps back to Neasham.
