Gainford Post Office, - just past the Gainford Academy. This latter building was a school between 1818-1899, whose most famous pupil was the Stan Laurel (real name Arthur Stanley Jefferson) of Laurel & Hardy fame. Beside the Post Office is a house (No 2) called "The Laurels". Is it called "The Laurels" because of Stan Laurel, or did Stan Laurel choose his name from the house name? |
