Explorer Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western Area)
A bracing moorland walk, with superb views (on a fine day).
One of the benefits of this walk is that the ground is firm under foot
for almost its entire length, making it suitable for walking in any weather.
There are virtually no navigational problems, and even in bad weather
it would be difficult to get into trouble.

Park at Kildale Railway Station, NZ60464 09539.
Head up the road leading to the village, and turn right when you meet
the minor road between Stokesley and Commondale.
Follow the road for a couple of hundred yards, until you come to a minor
road on your left which is signposted as being part of the Cleveland Way.
Follow this road uphill, in a South Easterly direction until you arrive
at the top of the ridge.
Here there is a footpath which leads down to Baysdale Abbey, but you may
find it preferable to continue along the minor road, - past Baysdale Farm,
to Baysdale Abbey.
Just before Baysdale Abbey there is a waymarked footpath, reached by a
field gate, that heads in a Southerly direction uphill and towards a plantation.
Follow this footpath which becomes a track in the plantation. Continue
along the track, which is broad and well defined, for the next two miles
or so. You are now on Ingleby Moor.
At NZ617040 there is a faint track which heads in a Westerly direction
to connect wiht a shooter's track. This is the only point on the walk
where there is any navigational difficulty.
The shooter's track heads South West across Middle Head Top to the tumulus
at Brown Howe.
Here you meet the Cleveland Way, which you follow North to return to Kildale.
