Explorer Map No OL43 - Hadrian's Wall (Haltwhistle & Hexham)
This walk takes in not Corbridge, with its historical
/ Roman connections, but also a section of Hadrian's Wall. The route
uses minor roads and easy to follow footpaths, and is perfect for a
reasonably gentle day out.
There are some gradients involved, but they are not very great.
The biggest "find" on this walk happened to be the church
at Halton. This tiny building is tucked away in a remote area of the
country, and being off the beaten track won't be much visited. And yet
the church is an absolute gem, - dating back (it is thought) to the
8th Century and containing Norman stonework. The views from the church
are superb, and passing by the church should be the highlight of your
walk.
