Explorer Map No 307, - Consett and Derwent Reservoir
This walk is taken from "Walking in County Durham"
by Paddy Dillon (published by Cicerone).
Only a very brief description is given, below, for this walk.
The route starts off in a pleasant wooded valley, but sections of the
route are on the open fells with somewhat indistinct paths at times. Appropriate
precautions must therefore be taken.
There are several lengthy gradients on the walk.

Start from the the village of Westgate.
Take the footpath due North that follows the Middlehope Burn (running
to the East of the Burn).
AT NY905400 the footpath meets a track that runs Eastwards. Follow this
track for a short while uphill, until you meet another track. Here, turn
left and follow this track Northwards until you meet a minor road.
Turn right and follow the minor road to Scarsike Head, and then right
again down another minor road.
Where a prominent walled track is met, on your left, at NY912 404, head
North Eastwards along this track.
Follow the footpath North East to Rookhope. (NOTE : The footpath is fairly
indistinct on this section, and you will need to use your compass).
From Rookhope, return to Westgate along the Weardale Way.
