Expolorer Map 302, - Northallerton and Thirsk
An easy walk for a very pleasant day out in the country.
There are few navigational difficulties, and absolutely no gradients to
speak of.
Most of the walking is on farm tracks or farm footpaths, most of which
are clearly waymarked.
There is some road walking, with the section entering Yafforth particularly
busy with traffic. Considerable care is needed here.
There was at least one stile which presented difficulty in getting over.
This stile, to the East of Yafforth Grange Farm, had no step and involved
climbing over a fence about 4 or 5 feet high. It would be quite impossible
for anybody not able-bodied to get over this stile (which has a way mark
sign on it!).

Start from the village green in Ainderby Steeple, SE33397
92190.
Take the road out East, past the Church. Soon, there is a minor road heading
South. Take this minor road, and at the sharp bend take Green Hills Lane
heading South South East.
Where the farm track to Green Hills Farm (ruins) is met, continue South
South East along the field footpath until you come to SE34078 90920, where
the path splits to the left and the right. Turn right and follow the field
boundary until you come to the footpath at SE33848 90405. Head West South
West along the field boundary until you come to Howe Beck. Here turn left
and head South until you come to a footbridge which takes you across the
Beck.
Now head West South West again to Far Fairholme Farm.
From the farm, take Fairholme Lane and then Potter Lane North until you
come to the lane leading to Swalefields Farm.
From Swalefields, take the footpath to the River Swale and walk alongside
the river in a Northerly direction to the bridge at Morton-on-Swale.
Head East from the bridge along the road, and just past the Manor House
take the way marked footpath North to Thrintoft.
Head North East along Thrintoft's main street until you come to the way
marked footpath that takes you to Moor House Farm.
From Moor House Farm, follow Thrintoft Moor Lane North for a short distance
before taking the way marked footpath East past Yafforth Grange Farm.
Once the road leading into Yafforth is reached, follow this in a Southerly
direction to Yafforth village.
From Yafforth village, head South along Dolly Lane then West along Myers
Lane.
Opposite the Equestrian Centre in Myers Lane, take the way marked footpath
South to Ainderby Steeple.
