Explorer Map OL30, - Yorkshire Dales (North)

This is a two-part walk, where either section could be walked on its own if required.

The ascent of Addlebrough is relatively straightforward, though it involves a fairly steep ascent and descent. This walk is best undertaken in high visibility, as the views from the top of Addlebrough are just stupendous. To make the ascent and not be able to enjoy the views would not be too good an idea.
The route up, and down, Addlebrough makes use of permissive footpaths. These are not shown on the Ordnance Survey map, but are marked by signposts.

The walk from Thornton Rust to Aysgarth and Thoralby is a straightforward "countryside walk", making use of waymarked footpaths, farm tracks, and some road walking. There are no particular navigational problems, and only a couple of relatively mild ascents and descents. As with the Addlebrough walk, the views are spectacular, and the walk is best done on a fine day.
