Explorer Map OL26, - North York Moors Western Area
This walk was taken directly from the book "Cleveland
Circles" by John Eckersley.
The reader is encouraged to buy this book to obtain the detailed walk
directions, which include descriptions of all the objects of interest
to be seen along the way.
There are no particular navigational problems, and the walk can be undertaken
at any time of the year.
This is a modest bit of uphill climbing at the start of the walk, and
there are stretches of walking on roads where care is needed.
Apart from this, there are no particular difficulties with the walk.

Start from the car park opposite the "Fox and Hounds"
pub in Slapewath (NZ64299 15752). This car park is not immediately obvious,
and you may need to look out for it.
Cross the A172 road, and turn left for a hundred yards or so. Where there
is a side road leading to Slapewath village, there is a finger post directing
you to the Cleveland Way footpath to Skelton.
Follow the Cleveland Way into Skelton. When you reach Skelton's main street,
turn right for a hundred yards or so in order to visit the new All Saints's
Church in Skelton.
Retrace your steps and head West out of Skelton.
A short distance out of Skelton there is a road leading to the old All
Saints' Church.
Continue West along the road between Skelton and Guisborough, until just
past Barrs Farm a footpath takes you North West across fields to Upleatham.
Follow the footpath to the B1268, and the old church at Upleatham.
From the old church, take the B1268 South West for a short distance, then
take the minor road North West into Upleatham village.
Follow Upleatham's main street Westwards and continue along a track until
there is a Y-junction at NZ62628 19574. Here take the left track which
eventually changes direction to head South East towards the B1268 again.
However, before you reach the B1268, take the footpath on your right that
takes you to Tockets Mill.
From Tockets Mill, take the footpath towards Tockets House, then turn
left into Mucky Lane.
When Mucky Lane meets the A171, cross over and walk towards Little Waterfall
Farm. Near the farm there is a bus stop, and by the bus stop a marked
foorpath which leads you back to Slapewath via the Cleveland Way.
