Expolorer Map 306, - Middlesbrough and Hartlepool
A very straightforward walk which can be undertaken at any
time of the year. There are no particular gradients or navigational difficulties.
The only real item that needs a bit of caution is the walk alongthe road
that leads into Skelton. There is no pavement here and the verge is very
narrow, so that the walker needs to be wary of the quite busy traffic
on this section.

Start from the area on top of Saltburn's cliffs, above
the lift down to the pier (NZ66593 21620). There is ample roadside parking
in this area.
Descend to the beach (choose whichever route down suits you) and walk
Westwards along the beach towards Marske. When St. Germaine's Church,
and the steps leading up to the church, come into view then head towards
the Church (NZ 639 227).
From the church, walk Westwards along the Street until you come to Marske
High Street. Here, turn left and head South along the main road (there
is pavement on the left) until you come to the large roundabout on the
A174.
Cross over the A174 to where there is a signposted bridleway that heads
South to Upleatham. Follow the lane all the way into Upleatham village.
In Upleatham, walk to the end of the village then turn left to walk downhill
to the B1268.
Turn left onto the B1268 and walk in an Easterly direction past the old
church.
Immediately past the Church take the footpath down to the Skelton Beck,
cross the beck by the footbridge, then continue along the footpath to
the woodland of Fanny Bank.
Continue along the footpath to Barns Farm and the A173 road. Turn left
and follow the road into Skelton.
From Skelton, return to Saltburn by the well signposted footpath that
follows the Cleveland Way.
