Explorer Map OL26 - North York Moors, Western Area
A circular walk, starting from the car park at Newton-under-Roseberry.
The walk starts with the ascent of Roseberry Topping, and then continues
round Great Ayton Moor and Gisborough Moor using well defined tracks and
roadways.
From Highcliff Nab the route returns through Hutton Village, using Forestry
Commission roads and a section of minor road.
There is no navigational difficulty at all, and the only possible problem
is the ascent, - and descent, of Roseberry Topping.

The start of the walk is from Newton-under-Roseberry Car
Park, NZ57034 12843.
Take the lane that leads towards Roseberry Topping. Where this lane reaches
the edge of woodland at a gate, NZ57472 12805, you have the choice of
ascending Roseberry Topping either by the direct route ("straight
ahead") or by a gentler route. For this latter path, turn right at
the gate and take the gently rising track though woodland.
From the summit of Roseberry Topping, tack the Cleveland Way East to Newton
Moor. Where the path passes through a gate at NZ58765 12740, turn right
and follow the waymarked track towards Gribdale.
Before the descent to Gribdale gate car park, there is a track off to
the left at NZ593 115. Take this track, and where it joins a well defined
track at NZ595 113 turn sharp left. Follow this track all the way to the
road at Percy Cross Rigg.
Follow the road for a short distance, to the farm track that leaves on
the left at NZ613 113. Follow this track all the way, past Sleddale Farm,
to Highcliff Nab Wood and High Cliff Nab at NZ610 138.
From Highcliff Nab, descend using the waymarked Tees Link track to Hutton
Village.
After passing through Hutton Village, a footpath is indicated on your
left at NZ597 142. This footpath follows Forestry Commission roads and
tracks all the way back to the gate that initially opened the way to Roseberry
Topping at NZ57472 12805.
from there, return to the car park down the lane.
