Explorer Map OL26 - North York Moors (West)

A walk with superb views of Bilsdale, taking the walker to the highest point on the North Yorkshire Moors at 1489 ft.
There is a moderate ascent up from William Beck Farm, and a fairly steep descent down to the hamlet of Urra.
Otherwise there are no great problems, with the path for the most part following well made shooter's tracks and minor roads. There is some morland footpath walking involved.

Start from the car park at Chop Gate (SE55890 99325).
Leave the car park for the main road and turn right for a short distance.
Take the track (SE56085 99175) up to William Beck Farm, and continue in an Easterly direction to ascend up to the moorland.
Where you meet a shooter's track at SE57695 99200, turn left and head North. Follow the shooter's track all the way along the escarpment until you meet another shooter's track at SE57495 01000, and turn right to follow this track until you see Round Hill (SE59415 01594).
From Round Hill, take the Cleveland Way North West along Carr Ridge. Just before the Cleveland Way crosses a boundary wall (57875 03070), there is a bridleway on your left that follows the escarpment in a Southerly direction.
Take the footpath here until you reach the track downhill at SE57560 01885. Take the footpath here (steep descent) to Urra.
From Urra take the minor road to Town Green and Seave Green, before returning to Chop Gate.
