The Grey Panthers

Curiously, the river (that also flows past the Leech House, see previous photo) is known as the Bedale BECK. Some Beck!! At this point it flows over a weir into an area known as "The Harbour", - part of an ambitious 18th Century scheme to make the Beck navigable. Notice the iron ring in the wall.
