Outdoor Leisure Maps Nos 305 & 306 - Bishop Auckland / Middlesbrough
A "four seasons" walk, which can be made at any
time of the year.
There are no problems with finding your way around, and providing you
have a good map and a sense of direction it is an easy route to follow.
In wet weather the footpaths can be somewhat muddy, but this is the only
difficulty you should face.

Start from Wingate's main street. There is a small car park
near the Victoria Inn.
Head up the main street in a Northerly direction, and not far past the
main Church there is a lane, - Moor Lane, heading East.
Where this lane meets a disused railway track walkway, turn right for
a short distance. Somewhat hidden, on your left, at NZ40942 37379, there
is a footpath that heads East to another disused railway walkway. Continue
East until you come to the pedestrian tunnel under the main A19 road.
Do not enter the tunnel, but instead take the footpath that is on your
right. This enter a wooded copse, before crossing a small beck. Follow
the footpath, and then track, to the minor road between Hutton Henry and
Station Town.
Soon after entering Station Town, you will find the railway walkway that
heads South to Hurworth Burn, - now just a disused railway station.
Here, head West along the Hurworth Burn Road for a short distance, to
the track at NZ40612 33344 (CARE : Road traffic).
Follow the waymarked footpath North to the farm at White Hurworth, and
then take the track West to Hurworth Bryan Farm and Trimdon Colliery.
Just before reaching Trimdon Colliery, take the footpathNorth East back
to Wingate.
