Explorer Map No OL27, - North York Moors Eastern Area.
A delightful cliff top walk between two very contrasting
villages. Staithes is a natural magnet for the tourists, whilst Skinningrove
retains much of its association with an industrial past.
Although the walk involves a total ascent of about 1400 ft, the only
section which presented any real difficulty was the descent into Skinningrove
along the Cleveland Way. This section of path is rematkably steep, and
is over stones laid as a pathway. In wet weather, these could be very
slippery.

Start from Staithes public car park, above the village
"proper". (NZ78113018546).
Descenfd into Staithes by the main road, and cross the Staithes Beck
by the footbridge.
Ascend up the road through Cowbar and follow the waymarked Cleveland
Way to Skinningrove.
Cross the Kilton Beck using the road bridge (NZ7139320027) and walk
up the main street in Staithes towards the Mining Museum (NZ7120119289).
Just in front of the Mining Museum you will find the footpath for the
Cleveland Street. Curiously, this took a little bit of map-reading to
manage to follow correctly.
Continue along the Cleveland Street to Hummersea Lane (NZ721193). Turn
left to Hummersea Farm, and then return to the Cleveland Way and Staithes.
