Explorer Maps No OL26 & 27 - North York Moors, East &
West
A delightful walk between two of the most attractive villages
in North Yorkshire.
The paths are all easy to follow, with no particular difficulties.
Walking along the path through the Seven valley there are one or two sections
which are quite wet and boggy, but otherwise there should be no problems.

Start from the car park in Rosedale (SE7246595986).
Take the road South out of the village towards Hutton-le-Hole (this road
can be recognised by the signs warning of the steep Rosedale Bank).
Follow the road as far as the White Horse Hotel, where you will find a
Bridleway (heading East initially) signposted. This Bridleway follows
a farm track to begin with, before becoming a narrow path.
Follow the Bridleway South East and then South all the way to High Askew
Farm. The path is quite clear to follow.
Past High Askew Farm, the footpath leaves the farm track at SE74302 90907
and heads in a South Westerly direction towards a ford over a beck. It
is easy to miss this footpath, so you need to be checking the map for
field patterns at this point.
After crossing the beck, follow the footpath along the boundary wall all
the way to where the lane into Lastingham starts (SE72927 90907).
Take the lane down into Lastingham village.
Return along this lane, and continue in a Northerly direction across Spaunton
Moor using the shooter's track. Rejoin the Hutton-le-Hole / Rosedale road
at SE72065 94569 and return to Rosedale along this road. (CARE, - watch
the traffic!!).
