Explorer Map No OL31 - North Pennines

A very straightforward route, following clear paths and tracks. There are a couple of gentle ascents, but nothing of any particular difficulty.
The scenery is absolutely superb, and is best seen on a sunny day. However, this is almost certainly an all seasons walk and is highly rewarding.
Because the first mile or so is a riverside footpath, it is likely that it will become very wet when the River Tees is in spate.

Start from the centre of Middleton-in-Teesdale, NY9485425391.
Take the road down to Middleton bridge, and before the road crosses the bridge the Teesdale Way is signposted along the North bank.
Follow the Teesdale Way footpath for about 2 miles, walking beside the river all the time.
AT NY9759124629 the path leaves the riverside and gently ascends towards the road at NY9825624472. Cross the road and follow the minor road uphill, past the Baptist Chapel, for a few hundred yards. Walk down the "High Street" in a Southerly direction to the main road, and walk along this, - the B6282, until it meets the B6281. Here, head downhill towards Eggleston Bridge.
On the other side of Eggleston Bridge, follow the waymarked Teesdale Way to Romaldkirk.
From Roamldkirk, head West for a short distance along the minor road to Heathercote until you come to the clearly signposted Tees Railway Walk.
Follow the Tees Railway Walk all the way back to Middleton-in-Teesdale.
